Starting out...expenses

Starting out...expenses

by April

We are buying our first RV. We are retired and want to travel about 6 months out of the year. I am wondering about expenses.

We would like to find places and stay about 2-3 weeks in each area and then move on. At first we are just traveling through Florida.

Any idea on the average you pay for fuel, sites, extras? I know it varies with the type RV and where you stay but just wondering what most people budget for.

Income and outcome!

Well, first look at your budget. What do you currently pay out for things like entertainment, food, housing, gas? What do you have available as a comfortable monthly income? You can spend $300+ a month for camping depending on what you want.

Will you be happy in a 'rustic' setting or do you want a resort type park? Will you want to eat out most meals or only an occasional splurge? Gas is cheaper right now - yeah! With our rig we get about 17-21 mpg. Knowing that, we can figure what we will spend for fuel on a trip.

So, you really need to have a good idea of what you can afford to comfortably spend each month. This lifestyle can work for almost any budget!

Before you hit the road, be sure you have money set aside as an 'escape' plan for when you come off the road as well. With some good planning using your personal finances, you will be worry free. Then you can hit the road and enjoy your travels!
