Size Restrictions?

Hubby and I hope to become fulltimers in 2012 (assuming the house can sell by then). We'd like to be as flexible as possible in where we go and stay. Before we select our vehicle (leaning towards fifth wheel, min. 36'), has anyone experienced problems where they were limited in where they could stay (either campgrounds or boondocking) because of vehicle length?

Also, what about driving through small towns - has this been a driving nightmare with a large rig?

Think Twice

We have a 38' motorhome and tow a Toyota Yaris. So many people asked us why we didn't choose a 5th Wheel? Our main reason was because we had a travel trailer for 10+ years and we didn't want a pull behind anymore. For my husband it was more difficult to tow a monster than it is to drive the monster. Backing into sites is more difficult with a tow behind than driving the MH through small towns. Plus our Yaris gets 40 MPG where a tow vehicle for a 5th Wheel will get substantially less, and we do a lot of sight seeing and put hundreds of miles on our little Yaris. You may want to reconsider your choice of a 5th wheel if you plan on traveling and sight seeing. If your plan is to get a seasonal site and stay put in one place for long periods of time than a fifth wheel won't be too hard on the pocketbook. Enjoy and Happy Travels.
