RV Water Pump not shutting off?

RV Water Pump not shutting off?

by John

Water pump doesn't shut off.. I have a new water pump.. Tested it by plugging the outlet pipe with a plug and it turned off.

This only started after overfilling the water tank with a valve near the pump. Sign said to open to fill tank... It did fine, and I thought I had turned it off totally -- but when I looked later it was overflowing the tank...

It is not leaking in any place that I can find. I also made sure the air was run off from the pipes.
What to try next???

Water Pump Issues

You will probably need to take the water pump out of the equation and pressurize the system to 50 psi using your air compressor and a homemade Schrader valve fill fitting. Hunt for air and water leaks.

Let it sit at least overnight for a good test. If no leaks, it's the pump. Except if there is a pressure tank in the circuit, which should show up as an issue during the pressure retention test. Good luck.

I had a similar problem. The valve that allows you to fill the fresh water tank my be leaking or open a bit. You do not want the system to build up too much pressure. Take your fresh water tank cap off.

In my case the connection where I hooked up my hose was allowing water to run back out on to the ground. The fill valve was leaking and kept overflowing the water tank. You have a leak somewhere. My guess the fill valve.
