We are on 30 amps now. Had no problems when on 50 amps. Is the water heater going bad or is it the amps?

While it should be in the bathroom or kitchen, whichever is closest to the hot water heater, you may have to follow the wiring from the heater to the switch. If you have a switch panel with multiple switches, confirm the correct one by checking the color coding of the wires on the switch. Get yourself an audible tracker to make the job easier.

It could be the electrical board for the heater.

Probably Bypassed
by: Anonymous

Check to see if the heater was bypassed and drained during winterizing. Do not apply power to the electric element until you know the h.w. tank is full of water as the element will be destroyed.

Once you have made sure the tank is full by opening the pressure relief valve with cold water turned on and allowing water to exit the valve, fire the LP side to heat water and make sure it is only allowed to warm up enough you can detect the temperature difference at the furthest outlet - kitchen faucet usually.

You probably need to check your hot water tank, it may be full of corrosion.
