Ram 1500 towing capacity

(St. Louis)

I just purchased a brand new Ram 1500 and found out the towing capacity is only 6,790 lbs!!! We are new to RVing and I am looking for a new and/or used travel trailer . Can anyone tell me what would be a safe trailer weight to pull?

Towing cap for your RAM 1500

Wow, I sure wish you would have asked some questions prior to your buying the RAM. You are going to be stuck with a smaller travel trailer because a 5th wheel is definitely out!

I think your best bet would be to see what a Ford dealer will give you for your RAM and trade it for the F-150 with the Eco Boost, twin turbo. You can pull up to 12,200 lbs. w the proper rear end. I have an F-150 and pull a 36 foot travel trailer that weighs approx. 10,500 with all our things loaded in it up over the Rockies from Denver to Glenwood Springs every summer and I don't even know it's behind me!

They have some T/T's that are around 20 feet that you might get under your weight limit. Don't let a trailer dealer sell you a trailer that weighs 6500 pounds because you won't be able to put much food and personal belongings on it before you're maxed out!
