Are You a Full-time RV'er? Take Care of Your Medical Needs

Being a full-time RV'er is a fun and exciting way to live, and there are thousands of people all across the United States who are doing just that. When you are traveling and having fun, the last thing you want to think about is illness or injury. But these are things that we have to think about all of the time, whether we live in a regular home, or on the road in an RV.

Know Where to Find Medical Assistance

RV Travel When you are a full-time RV'er, you may not be in your home town very often, so you will have little access to your regular physician. For this reason, it is a good idea to make sure that you make lists of medical facilities that are in the places you will be traveling to. At the very least, have some sort of medical alert device in the event of a medical emergency. You can go online and find all of the information you need, including locations of doctors offices, hospitals and clinics. It is a good idea to have access to the Internet when you are traveling, either with your cell phone or a laptop computer. This way, if you decide to take a detour, which so many RV'ers do just for the sake of adventure, you will be able to find out where to get medical help if you need it.

Make Sure You Always Have Access to Your Medications

If you are taking any medications, make sure that you get prescriptions that are refillable. That way, you can get them anywhere you are traveling. It is also important that you have your prescriptions filled by a chain pharmacy, so that you can go to any one of the pharmacy's franchises to get your prescription refilled when you need it.

It is also a good idea to make sure that you have plenty of your prescription medication on hand while you are traveling, just in case you are in an area where you are unable to get a refill. Make sure that all prescription medication is stored in the proper, original containers. This helps if you are stopped by the police, and you are able to prove that the medication has been prescribed to you by a physician.

Health Insurance Is a Must

It is important for everyone to have health insurance, but it is especially important for those who are full-time RV'ers to have health insurance. When most of us think about travel insurance, we consider it to be something that we only need when traveling overseas, or to tropical locations. Just because you can't get an RV overseas doesn't mean that you won't be leaving the country when you are on the road. It is pretty easy to take a trip into Canada or Mexico, and if you should become ill or injured while in one of these countries, you will need to have medical insurance.

No matter whether you are living at home, or are a full-time RV'er, it is important to look after your medical needs. This will ensure that you have many more RV'ing years ahead of you, with plenty of fun and exciting adventures that you will be able to enjoy to the fullest.
