I Wanna Travel

I Wanna Travel

by Harold Hoskins
(Potomac, IL.)

I have been trying to sell my home, a really nice home, and way below what it is appraised at. I have traveled with pop ups, to motor homes, and have decided (tentatively) on a pull TT. I want to purchase a good tow vehicle, and keep the mini van. My thoughts are: I can travel a couple hundred miles or so, find a nice place to set up. My wife can follow me in the minivan...(4 or 5 hours driving). We can set up and use the minivan for our sightseeing, and not use the tow vehicle (unless I wanna go fishing while wife does the "Walmart" thing). After a month or so, go another couple hundred miles and do it again, going with the "weather". I first thought of m/h with tow vehicle, but want to try this route. I am 67 and believe it or not still have two teenagers in school, (one more year). My son, here, said they could stay with him and finish school, but am considering home schooling. I am at the point that I am ready to rid myself of all the "stuff" I don't need, walk out the door and let the house go, or rent it, but I am not a good landlord (too easy going).

Oh, and another question, I am wondering about carrying "protection", and the gun laws vary from state to state. Some one said as long as the weapon is inside of vehicle (camper), there is no problem. But???

Happy Harold

i have been dreaming of this since retirement 5 years ago, and time is flying by.

Trying to sell too!
by: Jobarker

We are also trying to sell our house so we can do the fulltime rv'ing! We are both so excited for this new lifestyle. I have done a lot of research on it and talked to quite a few people. Also read books. We know what we are getting into and can't wait. Everything is in place except the sale of the house! I guess we just have to be patient!

Good luck with selling your house, just be patient. When the time is right it will happen.

Don't Live in REGRET
by: Cowgirl Kathi

I just turned 59; my daughter is grown and long gone from this nest and I divorced in 2007. While I have an amazing new man in my life, he doesn't share my "call" to the open road. So we have compromised -- he will find a new place here when this farm sells and pack all our "stuff" with him (including all four of our cats!) and I will board my horse somewhere for a year. Then, I'm OUTTA HERE -- at least for a year. He will come see me from time to time (easy for him, as he is a pilot and has his own airplane) and we will just have a different kind of committed relationship. Some folks say I'm crazy, but I know in my heart of hearts that if I don't do this NOW, I may never get the chance again. I do NOT want to LIVE IN REGRET!

I am a firm believer in Karma -- and when the time is right for you, everything will fall together. In the meantime, don't "give away the store" -- maybe you just ought to be a little more patient on the sale of your house.

I Wanna Travel
by: happy harold

I dropped price on home again, so my luxury vehicle I start with will have to be downgraded...lol. The gentleman said he was from Newman, IL... I live in Potomac. If it were not for two girls and one more year of school, I would just "do it". Happy trails to all who are there, hopefully someday soon...I sure don't wanna look back 10 years from now and say "I wish I had".

Happy Harold

Sounds good to me!
by: Cowgirl Kathi

I am also trying to unload the accumulation of 24 years on this little farm (which is for sale!) so I can hit the road. Sounds like you have a good plan and I say GO FOR IT!

As far as the gun laws, I believe if you have a license to carry in your home state, you should be ok. I plan to pack my handgun when I embark on my year-long journey as well. I just don't plan to strap it on my hip like the real cowgirls did!

Full Timing
by: buckeye6977

Just jump in with both feet. My wife and I did so in July 2011 and have not regretted the move a single day. We left Newman,Illinois an 7/7/11 and have not looked back. Good luck with your decision. We are living in a 37ft 5th wheel and loving it.
