Batteries

Hi,

I need to change the batteries in my RV but I don't know what ones to buy. Can I put any battery in there? Does it have to be 12v or 6v or deep cycle? Is there a certain number or size i should be looking for? I have a 21ft Fleetwood Prowler.

First, I wouldn't use WalMart batteries. Have heard of too many quality issues.

You will need a deep cycle battery. Depending on how much you use your battery you'll probably want the battery with the highest "reserve capacity" that will fit in your battery box. Reserve capacity refers to how many minutesrged battery can hold its voltage while pulling a 25 amp load. My last battery had a reserve capacity of 210, meaning it would give you 25 amps for roughly 3.5 hours.

You will not be satisfied with a standard car battery. They are designed to provide large amounts of power (for a car starter) over a short period of time, and handle very few full e/discarage cycles. The plates in them are not designed to stand up to long discharge cycles and will not last long being deeply discharged then charged again. Spend the extra money and get a quality deep cycle battery. If you use your battery a lot you'll be glad you did.

...besides you normally need to take the OLD battery with you, as they will charge you a 'core' charge if you don't one to turn in when you purchase a new battery. Guess depends on locale, but has always been the case in my experience. Good luck, happy trails.

Take the battery to Walmart and they will match it with the proper battery. Has to be 12volt though.
