A bit out of the full-time RVer norm...

My husband and I are preparing for full-time RV living. Our goal is to be completely transitioned by summer of 2014. We were a bit hesitant about the whole idea at first--- I am in my late twenties, he in his mid thirties, and we are both working professionals-- not exactly a typical RVing couple.

We are at the stage in life when all our friends are settled down in the 'burbs and raising their young families, but we could never quite make that leap. We both LOVE traveling and cringe at the idea of being tied to one place via traditional home ownership. After researching it for a year, we both decided we want to RV full time.

Our families think we're nuts, especially mine (my mother repeatedly expresses concern that "friends and neighbors will find out that my daughter lives in a TRAILER!" *gasp* My father thinks it's cool but won't share that with my mother).

In any event, we're still excited to hit the road. We've been researching, budgeting, and planning forever it seems, and I'm ready to get started!!!

Go for it.
by: Ken

My advise, for what it is worth, go for it.
Do not know your financial condition but work camping jobs are probably what you might want to do. I have some friends who have made a couple trips to Alaska and back, working along the way and while they were there.

As for my wife and I we are gate guards in deep south Texas. We work a job or two then take a few months off, travel then do it again. Great money in gate guarding. You have to get along with your mate very well because it is 24/7. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR TRAVELS. Hopefully we will see you down the road.

You're Not Alone ...
by: Wil

There are plenty of 30-something+ professionals out on the North American highways pursuing their dreams while working in their professions. In passing, it appears to this old phart that those most successful follow a predictable pattern -- one member of the couple works in a solo trade which is not location dependent, such as an artist or craft person, computer programmer, tele-commuter to corporate HQ -- while the other is a highly skilled professional who can pursue their skill in a nomadic fashion -- nurse, doctor or other health professional, oil/gas technician, seasonal workers in recreation industries, seasonal performers (Ren Faires, re-enactors, circus acts, etc.).

Real trouble can brew with couples who are both in the same fields and obtain work in different venues, when the biological imperative to reproduce storms the mental bastions, and when the nesting instinct overcomes wanderlust for only one member of the traveling team. So look out for the pitfalls and have a great time. I really wish I had started doing this in my 30's.
