In case you're not familiar with the term, "boondocking" refers to any time an RVer camps in a location without hookups for water and electricity.

Originally it referred to parking your RV in an isolated or remote area or other location that wasn't designed for extended RV parking—"way out in the boondocks," as the saying goes.

Over time, however, boondocking has become a more general term that also refers to rest stops, Wal-Mart parking lots, truck stopsÂ… pretty much any place an RVer may choose to stop for the night that doesn't have water and power hookups.

When someone mentions "solar panels", the image this conjures up for many people is a vast solar farm out in the desert with dozens of huge solar panels.

The truth of the matter, however, is that any solar panel is made up of solar cells, which are only six inches square. In other words, solar panels can be built as large or as small as you want. Obviously, the smaller the solar panel, the less electricity it produces. But you might be surprised how much electricity even a small solar panel can produce.

While driving your RV on the highway, you may have noticed large flashing construction signs powered buy relatively small RV solar panels.

Small, portable RV solar panels and batteries have been commercially available for quite a few years now. They are favorites of construction sites. Full time Rvers can also take advantage of this technology.

Today there are multiple choices for roof-mounted solar panels that provide RV solarpower. For a few hundred dollars, you can buy a small RV solar panels that can be mounted on the roof of your RV and integrated into your RV's electrical system to charge both your RV and automotive batteries.
